Technical Engineering Manager to Auctionet
Engineering Manager at Auctionet: help us build the marketplace that gives beautiful objects a second life. Stockholm/hybrid.
Auctionet is a marketplace where auction houses from Sweden, Great Britain, Finland, Spain, Germany, and Denmark sell furniture, art, design objects, collectibles, and much more. We are now looking for a Technical Engineering Manager who wants to be part of our team and contribute to a fast, reliable marketplace used by over a million buyers.
About the Role
A hands-on leadership role with clear ownership of people and delivery. You’ll partner with Tech Leads (who own technical direction and feasibility in each team), Product Owners and contribute directly to feature work when useful.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing two small teams (2 and 4 developers): 1:1s, feedback, growth, hiring, onboarding.
- Driving delivery with Product and Design; planning, prioritisation, unblocking.
- IC contribution on features where it accelerates the team.
- Co-owning the engineering career framework with the other EMs.
- Raising engineering standards (testing, CI/CD, observability, incident response).
- Technical input as needed; our stack includes Ruby on Rails, Turbo, Stimulus, and iOS/Android — no need to already know our stack.
This role is based in Stockholm, with the possibility to work partly remote.
About the Team
You’ll lead two product engineering teams, the Marketplace team and the Auction House Admin team. The marketplace team is focused on buyer experience (search/browse, personalisation, notifications, performance), and the Auction House Admin team is responsible for the Auction House experience. Teams have Tech Leads for day-to-day technical direction. We work in short cycles with cooldowns, practice code review and automated testing, and ship small, frequent releases.
Auctionet has around 170 employees and is the parent company of a wider group with approximately 400 colleagues across multiple countries. Our main office is near Stureplan in central Stockholm, with logistics centers in Malmö, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Westbury, and Köln.
About You
Pragmatic, clear communicator, keeps teams moving.
To succeed in this role, we think you have:
- Experience managing software engineers (not only project/tech lead).
- A track record of shipping user-facing product in small iterations.
- Solid engineering foundations (testing, code review, monitoring, security basics).
- Strong collaboration with Product, Design, and Tech Leads; fluent English (Swedish is a plus).
Bonus and not mandatory:
- Strong front-end skills.
- Experience with web frameworks (Rails or similar), marketplaces, search/recommendations, or performance work.
- Interest in art, design, or collectibles.
Our Recruitment Process
Short intro call → 2–3 conversations with the team → a small take-home exercise. No whiteboard puzzles.

With this acquisition, Auctionet owns and operates both the oldest auction house in the world (1674) and the second oldest (1681), which means we have been working with sustainability for 350(!) years.
