About the Data & Analytics Role at Auctionet

You will play a critical role in defining and building Auctionet’s approach to data, analytics, and business intelligence from the ground up. As the key driver of our data strategy, you’ll work closely with teams across the company to inform decision-making, identify opportunities, and uncover actionable insights that accelerate our marketplace business in Sweden and throughout Europe.

Our data stack

Our current (ever evolving) data stack that was built up during the last year includes

• Postgres as database
• dbt for transformation
• Sling and dlt for ingestion
• Dagster for orchestration
• Metabase for BI
  

Everything self-hosted in our Kubernetes based private cloud, maintained by our excellent DevOps team. Meaning we get a lot of the ease of cloud, without the cost monitoring.

Key Responsibilities: Data Strategy, Leadership, Business Intelligence

• Develop and execute Auctionet’s comprehensive data and analytics strategy in line with company objectives.
• Partner with executive leadership, product, technology, marketing, and operations teams to embed a data-driven culture that supports Auctionet’s ambitious growth plans.
• Build and lead a best-in-class data & analytics team, fostering continuous learning and innovation.
• Drive design and implementation of scalable, trusted, and secure data architecture and business intelligence platforms.
• Establish frameworks and KPI dashboards to measure business performance and deliver regular insights to all key stakeholders.
• Enable proactive, predictive analytics and data modelling to identify trends and inform future decision-making.
• Advise on data integration and automation to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency across Auctionet’s marketplace.
• Champion a culture of experimentation, curiosity, and knowledge sharing across the organisation.

About You: Data Leadership, Analytical Excellence, Visionary Thinking

• Proven experience leading data and analytics teams in high-growth, digital or marketplace environments.
• Strong knowledge of data architecture, cloud data platforms, business intelligence tools, and analytics methodologies.
• Skilled at translating business needs into actionable data solutions, with a pragmatic and commercial approach.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Demonstrated ability to foster cross-functional collaboration and drive cultural change towards data-driven thinking.
• Strong project management skills and a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
• Experience in the auction, e-commerce, or classified marketplace sector is a plus, but not required.
• Full professional proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Swedish or other European languages is a bonus.

Our Recruitment Process

We have a straightforward process without unpleasant surprises. We'll start of with a short interview and greet just to get a feeling if we could be right for each other or not. We then have a few meetings (usually two or three) where we talk about you, the role and Auctionet - and you get the chance to talk to the people you will work closely with.

In the process, we will also ask you to do a small take-home exercise. And in the end, we hope it feels like the perfect fit for both of us!

Please note this role needs to be based in Stockholm, we will only consider current residents in Sweden. Although the role is in Stockholm, we do offer Hybrid work, ie you can work from home if you prefer, for part of your time.

About the Team

Currently the Data Team consist of only one person, which this role will be replacing. As a new department in Auctionet, established less than a year ago, we see great potential for this role and function within the company, and expect it to grow over time. The data team is part of the Technology department at Auctionet, which consists of 24 people, and works closely with developers and devops to design, develop and maintain the data stack.

Auctionet has around 170 employees and is the parent company of a wider group with approximately 400 colleagues across multiple countries.

Auctionet was founded in 2011 by a team of people with unique experience of online auctions. Read more about Auctionet here. In 2021 Auctionet acquired the auction house Stockholms Auktionsverk, and we are now by far the largest auction marketplace in the Nordics, and one of the larger auction marketplaces in the world. With this acquisition, Auctionet owns and operates both the oldest auction house in the world (1674) and the second oldest (1681), which means we have been working with sustainability for 350(!) years.
